... an experienced professional standard drummer, available for live or studio work
Hi! my name is Gary Walmsley and I play drums. With over fifteen years experience in a studio and live environment, I could be the drummer for you!
Specialising mainly in the Pop/Rock and Metal genres, I run my own rehearsal/recording facility in Birmingham city centre and have shared the stage with such acts as The Feeling, Editors, Spider Simpson, Purnice Brothers, Ricky Warwick (The Almighty), Jeff Scott-Soto (Journey), Pat Torpey (Mr Big), Richie Kotzen (Forty Deuce, Poison, Mr Big), Danny Vaughn (Tyketto), The Kooks, Andrew WK, Stuart Cable (Stereophonics), Stone Gods (ex Darkness), Gary Stringer (Reef), Tugg (Basement Jaxx), Pete Way (UFO) and many more...
Back in 2002, I qualified as a Drum Teacher and became the UK Manager of IDS drum school. Based in Birmingham, I gained valuable experience in all aspects of drums, teaching and performing over a 3 year period. Currently, I am performing with 'The First Seven', singer/songwriter 'Gary Nock' and Ibanez guitar endorsee 'Steve Smith'. Please see the recent work page for more.
I am now also working for Marshall Amplification, as part of the Natal Drums and Percussion team! Marshall Amplification bought the Natal brand and are setting about developing the product into a top drum company. I now work for Natal/Marshall as part of this team.
As a result of this development, Natal and Marshall are the main sponsors behind my new business venture PROGRESS MUSIC ACADEMY. Its really exciting times as myself and friend Steve Smith are about to open the doors to Birmingham's newest Music Academy. You can find out more info by clicking the images below!
I am also a intergral part of the production team that organises the annual Drumfest events. Winning the Rhythm Magazine readers poll event of the year award for the past four years running, the Drumfest features the worlds best drummers and is collectively the largest drum clinic in the world today.
Some of the drummers I look up to and have insipred me over the years are: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Phil Collins, Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band), Lasr Ulrich (Metallica), Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Terry Bozzio, Virgil Donati, Jose Pasillas (Incubus), Ed Toth (Vertical Horizon), Stumpy Munroe (Almighty), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Danny Carey (Tool), Tommy Lee, Vinny Paul (Pantera)... to mention a few.
I am available for drum lessons and studio or live work, please contact me with any enquiries.
